Our MissionThe Oculus is the University of Virginia’s multidisciplinary journal of undergraduate research and the Commonwealth’s premier undergraduate research publication.
It is a journal that is compiled, edited, and published by undergraduate students on an annual basis. Articles in The Oculus cover a limitless array of topics, from American History to Electronic Music to Biochemistry. Any undergraduate who has completed a significant research project may submit their work for a chance to be published. From the Editor-in-ChiefOriginal research, both at The University of Virginia and beyond, has long been a bastion of both theoretical and experimental progress. Indeed, the cutting edge of any field involves novel research, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge beyond the status quo. However, without the effective dissemination of these ideas, this knowledge ignominiously rests, unused and unknown. Our University’s seemingly ubiquitous founder, Thomas Jefferson, lends his quill to this topic well, writing:
I sincerely hope that you, individually and as a Community, will be enlightened by the research contained in the journal, and let the authors’ achievements lead you to new heights of inquisitiveness and determination in your pursuit of knowledge.
